Abstract

Babies born before completing the 37th gestational week are called premature babies. Although it frequently occurs spontaneously, there are some risk factors such as chorioamnionitis, hypertension, premature rupture of membranes, previous premature births, short gestational age, early period bleeding, infection, inflammation, and excessive uterine enlargement. Its incidence is higher in low-income countries, but any expectant mother may encounter premature birth. Premature babies usually have low birth weight and since intrauterine development is not completed in these babies, it is possible to encounter serious problems such as respiratory problems, hypoglycemia, feeding difficulties, hypothermia, infection, jaundice, congenital anomaly, asphyxia, hypocalcemia and mortality. Appropriate care is vital for the early diagnosis of these problems in premature babies and to create the necessary conditions for providing the necessary services and for the development of babies to progress in a controlled manner. Although there are methods to improve the results of preterm birth, it is a fact that preterm birth is one of the important causes of mortality. For this reason, the first aim is to prevent this situation and the appropriate education should be given to the families during and before pregnancy.
