Abstract

This research addresses the scope, methods and application areas of bibliometric analyses in medical literature. Bibliometric analysis is a powerful method used to assess the productivity, impact level and trends of scientific publications. In the study, methods such as number of publications, citation analysis, network analyses and thematic mapping used in these analyses are examined and it is stated that the analyses are generally based on databases such as Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed.

In recent years, the number of bibliometric studies has increased rapidly, especially in 2024, accounting for 26.69% of the publications in this field. On the basis of countries, China was the country with the highest number of publications with 54.4%, while Turkey ranked third. In addition, China's intensive institutional support for scientific research has come to the fore as the main factor of this success. While bibliometrics, nursing and medical ethics were among the most studied topics, 21.7% of these studies were concentrated in the field of bibliometrics.

The study emphasises that bibliometric analyses make important contributions to the development of medical literature, and predicts that the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning will make these methods more powerful and effective in the future. Supporting bibliometric analyses with larger databases and innovative software is critical for the development of health policies and filling information gaps.
